From Novalja to Zrce Beach: What options are there?

You have arrived in Novalja and want to go to Zrce Beach? Then you have several options that we will detail here. The good news: It's straightforward. The most important rule: Never drive drunk — Croatia has a zero-tolerance limit for drivers under 25!

Taxi: The Classic

The ride from Novalja to Zrce Festival Beach takes about 10 to 15 minutes by taxi. Prices vary depending on the time of day and season:

• During the day: 10–15 € per ride (one car, not per person)
• At night (after midnight): 15–20 €, sometimes a bit more
• Festival weeks: Prices can rise to up to 25 € at night

Important tip: Always agree on the price before starting the ride! Most taxis in Novalja operate without a meter. Ask clearly: “Koliko do Zrce?” (How much to Zrce?) and agree on a fixed price. This avoids unpleasant surprises.

You can find taxi stands in the center of Novalja, especially around the main street and the harbor. At night, taxis are also available directly at Zrce Beach for the return trip — but expect waiting times during peak hours.

Bolt App: Modern Alternative

For several years, the Bolt app has also been available in Novalja. The advantage: You see the price in the app beforehand, no negotiation needed. Generally, Bolt rides are cheaper than traditional taxis, especially at night.

However, availability is limited — Novalja is small, and during peak times (2–4 AM after a festival), it may take a while for a driver to become available. Tip: Order the Bolt about 10 minutes before you really need to leave.

Shuttle Buses: The Cheapest Option

During the festival weeks, shuttle buses regularly run between Novalja and Zrce Festival Beach. Prices are around 2–5 € per ride, and the buses often operate until the early morning hours.

Even outside the festival season, there is a minibus service during the high season (July–August). However, departure times are irregular — check locally or ask at your accommodation for the current schedule.

On Foot: Feasible, but with Limitations

The distance from Novalja to Zrce Beach is about 2.5 kilometers along the road. During the day, the walk is absolutely doable — about 30 minutes through the typical Croatian landscape with olive trees and sea views.

At night, we advise against it. The road has no lighting and no sidewalk. Combined with traffic (including drunk drivers), this poses a safety risk that you should not take.

Rental Cars and Personal Vehicles

If you are traveling with your own car or a rental car: There are parking spaces at Zrce Beach, which are chargeable during the high season (about 5–10 € per day). However, keep in mind: Those who drive do not drink. Croatia conducts regular checks, and the penalties are severe.
