The Most Beautiful Beaches Around Novalja — Hidden Gems Beyond Zrce
Everyone knows Zrce Beach — but around Novalja, stunning bays with crystal-clear water are waiting to be discovered. From the spectacular Beritnica to the tranquil bay of Sveti Duh: the best beaches for your recovery day between festival nights.
More Than Just Zrce Festival Beach
When you think of Novalja, you automatically think of Zrce Festival Beach — and rightly so. But the island of Pag has far more to offer than Europe's most famous open-air party strip. Along the rugged coastline, some of Croatia's most beautiful beaches remain surprisingly quiet, even in peak season. Perfect for anyone who needs a day of recovery in the crystal-clear Adriatic waters after an intense festival night.
Beritnica — The Wild Beauty
About 3 kilometres south of Novalja, Beritnica is a beach that looks like it belongs in another world. Dramatic rock formations rise from the turquoise water, bizarre stone needles line the bay, and the barren lunar landscape amplifies the surreal atmosphere. Access is only possible by boat or via a demanding hiking trail — which is exactly what makes Beritnica so special.
The water here is crystal clear and calm, ideal for snorkelling. If you rent a boat, you can explore the surrounding coves along the way. Important: there is no infrastructure, so bring plenty of water and sun protection.
Sveti Duh — The Tranquil Bay
North of Novalja, nestled in a pine grove, lies the bay of Sveti Duh (Holy Spirit). Time moves slower here. The pebble beach slopes gently into the sea, the water shimmers in every shade of blue and green, and apart from the chirping of crickets, there is barely a sound.
Sveti Duh is perfect for families and anyone seeking complete tranquillity. A small restaurant on the beach serves fresh fish and cold drinks — nothing more is needed. For more tips on exploring the area around Novalja and Pag island, check out our surroundings page.
Ručica — The Hidden Pebble Beach
On the opposite side of the peninsula, about 20 minutes by car from Novalja, Ručica beach sits in a deep, sheltered bay. The high cliffs on either side shield the beach from wind and create an almost Mediterranean microclimate. The white pebbles and crystal-clear water are reminiscent of Greek islands.
Ručica is never crowded, even in July and August. The drive along an unpaved road deters casual tourists — an advantage for those seeking peace and nature. An absolute hidden gem for the perfect recovery day between two nights at Zrce Festival Beach.
Caska — A Long Sandy Beach with History
Just a few kilometres southeast of Novalja, Caska beach stretches for several hundred metres — one of the few genuine sandy beaches on Pag. The shallow, warm water makes Caska particularly popular with families and non-swimmers.
What makes it special: directly off the coast lie the sunken ruins of the ancient Roman city of Cissa, which sank into the sea following an earthquake. On calm days, you can see the wall remains beneath the water's surface — a fascinating sight. If you're interested in the region's history and culture, you'll find suitable accommodation near the beach.
Zrce Beach — A Daytime Oasis
Yes, you read that right. Zrce Beach itself deserves a place on this list — but during the daytime. Before the bass kicks in at dusk, the beach is a wonderful place for swimming, sunbathing and relaxation. The water at Zrce Festival Beach is surprisingly clean and clear, the pebbles warm pleasantly in the sun, and the beach bars serve cocktails and snacks right by the water.
The big advantage: excellent infrastructure. Showers, toilets, sun loungers and parasols are all available — perfect for anyone who appreciates beach comfort before hitting the dance floor again in the evening.
Your Perfect Recovery Day
Our tip: plan at least one full beach day between your festival nights at Zrce Festival Beach. Whether you head to Beritnica in the morning, spend the afternoon at Sveti Duh, or explore the ruins of Caska — your body will thank you, and the next party night will be all the better for it.
