Sheep Pag
Helpful background, tips and explanations in detail.
Sheep Pag
After tourism, sheep farming is the most important economic sector on the island of Pag. Over 500 sheep farmers take care of more than 30,000 sheep here. It’s no wonder that the animals shape the landscape and are an integral part of the island's identity.
The island of Pag is particularly famous for its sheep cheese, which has a unique flavor due to the salty air, the herbs of the barren landscape, and traditional processing. The “Paški sir” is one of Croatia's most renowned specialties and is appreciated far beyond the country's borders.
When you explore the island and venture a bit further from Zrce and Novalja, you are very likely to encounter sheep grazing freely in the meadows and hills. Sometimes they even cross the roads – a typical sight on Pag. You might even spot a “Black Sheep” as a special photo opportunity.
