Tipping in Croatia — What is customary at Zrce Beach?
Tipping in Croatia — A short guide for your Zrce trip
You are planning your vacation at Zrce Festival Beach and wondering how tipping works in Croatia? Don't worry — it's simpler than you think. Still, there are a few things you should know so you don't give too much or too little.
First the most important: Euro is the national currency
Since January 1, 2023, the Euro is the official currency in Croatia. The old Kuna is no longer in use. This makes everything much easier — you don't have to convert and can pay directly in Euros. Card payments are now accepted almost everywhere, including most clubs and bars at Zrce Beach.
Tipping in restaurants
In Croatian restaurants, tipping is not mandatory, but it is greatly appreciated. The common practice:
- 10–15 % of the bill for good service
- Alternatively: simply round up to the next whole amount
- For a bill of 47 Euros, for example, give 50 Euros
- For larger groups, 10 % is absolutely appropriate
In the restaurants around Novalja and Zrce Beach, the waiters are used to international guests. No one will be offended if you don't tip — but a friendly rounding up is considered good manners.
Tipping in bars and clubs
In the legendary clubs at Zrce Beach — Papaya, Noa, Aquarius, and others — the tipping culture is a bit more relaxed:
- Rounding up is the easiest method
- 1–2 Euros per round for drink orders at the bar
- For bottle service or VIP tables: 10 % is customary
- At the cocktail bar: Those who are generous often get served faster next time
Especially on a hot party night at Zrce Festival Beach, a Euro tip can make the difference between waiting 5 or 15 minutes for your drink.
Tipping in taxis
Taxis in Novalja and on the island of Pag usually operate with a meter or fixed price. For tipping:
- Round up to the next whole Euro
- For a ride costing 8.50 Euros, simply give 10 Euros
- For longer rides (e.g., from Zadar Airport): 2–3 Euros extra
Tipping in hotels and accommodations
If you are staying in a hotel, tipping for housekeeping is a nice gesture:
- 1–2 Euros per day on the nightstand or pillow
- For special service (carrying luggage, concierge help): 1–2 Euros
- In vacation rentals and apartments, tipping is not customary

Card payment and tipping
A peculiarity: When paying by card in Croatia, tipping is rarely asked for. There is no field to fill in like in the USA. If you pay by card and still want to tip, just leave some coins or a bill on the table. Some more modern card terminals now offer a tipping option — but this is still the exception.
Summary
Tipping in Croatia is voluntary but welcome. You can't go wrong by simply rounding up a little everywhere. The people at Zrce Beach and in Novalja are hospitable and grateful for any recognition. And let's be honest: With the relatively low prices in Croatia, a few extra Euros won't hurt — but they will put a smile on your bartender's face.
